Spooky Fall Decorating

I really hate to decorate inside the house for Halloween. The orange and black color scheme really wrecks havoc on my decor. But, watching Martha last week, I was inspired by some Halloween party invitations that were shaped like a mask. Using scrapbook paper that was antiqued, she made some pretty classy invites that could double as decor. Woot, Martha!

I cut out the shapes using this template.

Then, I used a black ink pad to distress the edges (gradually get lighter toward the center).

I hot glued the masks to an old vine, complete with curly cues, I found in the woods and stuck it in a vase. Bam!

Now look at what Rachelle, from Fingerprints on the Fridge came up with, this could almost be my window. She's down with the classy Halloween decor!

And, finally, I tweaked my mantle a little because I finally found me some...wait for it...MONKEYBALLS! You know I love these things, so I replaced the mantle moss:

And made a little pile next to my candle sticks:

And nestled one next to my new $14 Costco vases (yep, 14 bucks for all three!):

I love me some monkeyballs...

  5. Funny story...while gathering the monkeyballs (on the side of the road) we were suddenly approached by a speeding pickup truck full of two guys in head to toe camo. Literally, their faces were painted and everything, who yelled at us for being on private property. Good times...

  6. While checking out SITS today I saw the word monkeyballs and well, I had to come and visit. GREAT decorations - those vases from COSTCO are awesome! I'm going to have to go there today to see if mine has any. Happy Thursday!!!

  7. I love all this stuff! I have one large vase, just like yours, and mine cost £20 here in England! But it comes in useful at Christmas too!
I just spray pant some twigs silver, and hang baubles on!
In fact, most things just get spray -painted to go with my decor!
I love junk-shops and flea markets, and as long as I like the shape, then it's out with the paint!

  19. Great decorations. They are very festive without being neon orange, in your face, hello it's Halloween. I like it.

  20. Ok monkeyballs. Did you buy (I'm so sounding like a moron right now) or gather those? We have them here but for the life of me I can't find any that aren't already rotting :(

  21. Ok...Monkey Balls...I found you through your SITS day. Whoever can say Monkey Balls without smiling is a sorry-sap:) Fabulous. I'm waiting for one more project before I post pics of our halloween decorations. I go for the Fall theme, not so much Halloween. Although my walls are a deep orange, so unlike you, my house is made for this season. Found amazing Fall leaves at Target for my clear vases, they also have vined pumpkins. Trader Joes has amazing fairy tale pumpkins (huge) for $7. I could hardly lift it. Those are outside! I'm in heaven. Come on by sometime. We'd love to have you over for a visit.
